Why notifications slip past
A quiet ADHD reminder in the notification list can wait until the moment has passed. Many people with ADHD describe the same sequence: the alert arrives, the next thing takes its place, and the alert is no longer in mind.
That is the everyday version of out of sight, out of mind. You did not miss it because you decided to skip the task. A swipe is a small movement, and the same sound every day is easy to treat as background. A note on a locked screen has the same problem: once the screen is down, the note is gone with it.
How a call helps
A scheduled call rings the phone at the time you chose. Answering it is a different action from swiping a banner. The message is in your own voice on every plan, which many people find easier to place than a generic tone. On Focus and above you can type the line instead and have an AI voice read it in English.
Many people with ADHD describe executive function as the set of skills that get a task started, switch you from one thing to the next, and hold a plan while you are doing something else. A call does not build those skills. It is an outside cue at a moment you picked in advance, useful at the points where a transition usually slips: leaving one activity and starting another.
Recurring times matter for the same reason. Rebuilding a reminder every night is another task to remember. Daily repeats start on Focus, so the call can arrive at the same time without a fresh setup each evening. The message plays when you answer. There is no keypad menu.
ADHD wake-up calls
An ADHD wake up call is a ring at the time you set, with a short line you recorded, such as "Feet on the floor." It is not a beep you can clear from the pillow with one tap.
An ADHD alarm that uses the same tone every morning is a sound some people sleep through or snooze without sitting up. A call still will not ring if the phone is on silent or Do Not Disturb. Save our caller ID first. Morning calls are covered in more detail on the wake-up call page, and the reasons alarms get slept through are on why do I sleep through my alarm.
Short examples
Meds time: "Morning dose, now." The call does not confirm that anything was taken. It only rings. For a parent or another number, see medication reminder calls.
Leave the house: "Keys, bag, out the door." Useful when leaving is the step that gets lost between getting dressed and starting the next thing.
Start a task: "Open the document and write the first line." The call is a start cue, not a plan for the whole task.
End a long stretch of focus: "Stop here and stand up." Many people with ADHD describe getting stuck in one task and missing the next one. The call is a switch point you set earlier.
What it is not
This is not body doubling with a live person. Body doubling usually means someone is with you, in the room or on a real conversation, while you work. On Time Call plays the message you set and then the call ends. Nobody is on the line to keep you company or check your work.
It is not a treatment, and it is not a diagnosis. The National Institute of Mental Health describes ADHD as a medical condition with its own care. Use this as one reminder among the supports you already have. A longer plain-language note on time blindness and the "object permanence" phrase is on ADHD time blindness and object permanence.
Plans
Starter is free to try on your own number: 3 free calls, one-time, your own voice, no card, and no recurring schedule. Focus (£4.99/month) adds daily repeats, other repeat patterns, and AI text-to-speech, still to your own number.
Unanswered calls can be retried on Focus and Support. Focus includes Keep Calling Until Answered: up to 5 retries after the first call (6 dials in total), 3 minutes apart, including after voicemail. Each retry uses one call from the monthly quota. Support includes Call Until Answered: up to 3 retries with 5-minute gaps, including after voicemail. Starter does not include automatic unanswered retries.
Support (£11.99/month) calls you plus up to 4 other people, and emails you if a call is not answered. That is the plan if a family member should hear the message. US: +1 (740) 693-0907 · Canada: +1 (431) 500-0907 · UK: +44 7426 930907. Save the number for your country so the phone is less likely to treat it as unknown.
Frequently asked questions
Is On Time Call a treatment for ADHD?
No. On Time Call is a reminder tool. It places a phone call at a time you set and plays a message you recorded, or an AI voice on a paid plan. It is not a treatment, and it is not a diagnosis. Keep using whatever support already helps you, and talk to a clinician about ADHD itself.
Why do notifications slip past so easily?
Many people with ADHD describe a silent alert disappearing the moment something else is in front of them. A swipe is a small action, and the same chime every day is easy to file as background. A ringing call asks you to answer, which is a different action.
Can I record the reminder in my own voice?
Yes, on every plan, including Starter. The message plays when you answer, so there is no menu to press through. On Focus and above you can also type a message for an AI voice in English.
When do daily repeats start?
Starter is 3 free calls, one-time, to your own number, with no card and no recurring calls. Daily repeats start on Focus. Paid plans can also repeat on the same weekday as the first call, on the same date each month, or on days you pick.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. 3 free calls, one-time, to your own number, recorded in your own voice. No card is required. AI voices and daily repeats start on Focus.
What if my phone is on Do Not Disturb?
A call follows your phone's settings. Do Not Disturb, silent mode, and Silence Unknown Callers can stop the ring or send it to voicemail. US: +1 (740) 693-0907 · Canada: +1 (431) 500-0907 · UK: +44 7426 930907. Save the number for your country as a contact and allow it through those settings. The steps are in the guide to calls that are not ringing.
Is this the same as body doubling?
No. Body doubling usually means a live person is with you, in the room or on a call, while you work. On Time Call plays a recorded or AI message and then hangs up. Nobody is waiting on the line.
